The fastest cars in the world

Although most of us drive sensible, moderately-priced cars, many of us dream for something a little more flashy. Even as an idle daydream, thoughts of speedy, luxury vehicles can quicken our pulse.

So, regardless of whether we'll ever drive - much less own - one of them, here is a list of some of the world's fastest, most exotic cars.

Noble M600
An amalgam of parts from around the world, this car can burn some serious rubber. It can reach 225 miles per hour and goes from zero to 60 in 3.7 seconds, according to AOL. With twin turbochargers and a Yamaha engine, this car is sure to excite - and it only costs $330,000.

Bugatti Veyron
This might be the speediest of the bunch. It was certified by the Guinness World Records as reaching 269 miles per hour, according to MarketWatch. The 1,200 horsepower engine likely has something to do with that, as do the four enlarged turbochargers. This one will set you back around $2.5 million, though, so start saving now.

SSC Ultimate Aero
For $654,400, however, you can get a pretty fast car. The Aero can reach 60 miles per hour in 2.7 seconds and has a 1183 horsepower engine, according to Super Cars.

Koenigsegg CCX
This Swedish-made vehicle is part of the manufacturer's quest to make the world's most perfect sports car, according to AOL. For 806 horsepower and a top speed of 245 miles per hour, this car might be the list's top bargain at $550,000. There's even a environmentally friendly version of the car, which runs on biofuel and produce 25 percent more power.
