The good news is you can perform a good deal of car maintenance basics yourself and save a little money. Consider doing your own routine maintenance by trying these tasks at home.

1. Replace the wiper blades - If a rainy day means you are going to have to suffer with streaky windows, it may be time to replace the windshield wiper blades. 2. Change the air filter - A new air filter should only cost you around $15 and U.S. News and World Report says its simple to change on your own. All you have to do is locate the filter in your hood, pop out the old one and replace it with the new. Consider analyzing the way the old one was positioned before taking it out in order to have an easier time replicating the placement.

3. Check your battery - Women's Automotive Solutions explains that it is very simple to check your battery at home. First remove your battery from the car and then clean it in order to properly maintain the battery and its ability to say charge. The auto resource states that you can use a damp wash cloth and wire brush to clean any dirt off the cable connectors.
