Finding The Right Nanny For Your Newborn

Author: Danielle Purnell

The right babysitter can give you peace of mind.

Many new mothers want to spend every second of the day with their little ones, but the time eventually comes for them to head back to work. It can be difficult to leave your newborn in the care of a stranger, especially if you don't have the money to pay for a full-time daycare service (or wire hidden cameras all over the place). However, there are a few ways that you can make sure you're finding a babysitter to suit all of your needs before going back to your job.

First, see if you can find a good friend or a loved one to take care of your baby. There's no better babysitter than someone you're already familiar with, and they may even do it free of charge! Leaving your little one with a family member can also give you peace of mind.

If none of your loved ones live nearby, it's time to start searching the classifieds online and in the newspaper alike. Many professional nannies list their services and fees on websites, such as Angie's List, which makes it easy for moms to narrow down their options.

Once you have a few candidates in mind, it's time to conduct the interview process. Come prepared with a list of questions for your potential babysitters to help you determine if they would be a good fit for your child. Don't be afraid to ask them about their past experiences and for references from previous clients. If you're interested in finding a nanny that has a CPR certificate, this might also be something to ask during the interview.

Although it might take you weeks to find a babysitter you're comfortable with, having that peace of mind before you head off to work can make sure you and your family are happy in the end.
