Top three tips for saving money with a new baby

It's no secret that having a baby is expensive. If you thought you had a lot of expenses before, just wait until that little bundle of joy comes home and needs an obscene amounts of diapers, baby formula, baby food and other costly items. While your new addition is certainly worth the expenses, you don't want to be going through a financial hardship or putting your family in debt to take care of her. Therefore, consider these simple ways to save money with a new baby in the picture.

1. Save on breastfeeding - Extensive research supports the notion that breastfeeding is healthier for your infant than formula, and it is also a lot cheaper. You could spend hundreds of dollars a month on formula, while breast milk is, of course, free. When it comes to breastfeeding, borrow a friend's breast pump instead of buying your own. Parents Magazine says this could cost you between $150-800, and if you borrow instead, all you have to do is buy a replacement plastic attachment which costs around $45.

2. Borrow baby clothes - Infants and babies outgrow clothes faster than you can blink an eye, so don't waste a lot of money buying new garments. Resist the temptation to splurge on every cute little sweater you see and ask friends and family if they have any old baby clothes they could lend you. If you must purchase new outfits, go with unisex clothing that your future children can also wear.

3. Join a whole sale club - Buying in bulk can be painful sometimes, but the short- and long-term savings are worth while. Purchase large quantities of diapers, wipes, baby powder, lotion and shampoos because you can never have too many of these items and the grocery stores may mark up the prices .
