Ways to supplement your income

With the economy still struggling, many Americans are finding their income isn't going quite as far as they'd like it to. Too much month, not enough paycheck, as the saying goes. With mortgages, credit card debt and car bills to pay, there is a seemingly endless amount of money to spend. Even with a stable job, it can feel like too much.

However, there are ways to add a little to your income to feel a little more flush. Here are a few of the best ways to earn extra money.

Sell your belongings
Not all of them, of course, but the ones you use or need least. Over the years many of us accumulate a lot of goods, and often we find that we stop enjoying them after a while. Whether it's unnecessary clothes, an outdated computer or replaced furniture, it's easy to find things to sell that you won't miss when they're gone. In fact, you might even be thankful for the extra space.

There are many ways to go about this. Yard sales are a great way to get it all out of the way in a single afternoon. Online auctions, on the other hand, afford you more control over the prices you receive, but take longer. Pawn shops, if there's one in your area, are another possibility.

While this is far from a reliable way to make extra cash, it might not be as unlikely as you think. Avoid the lottery and stick to more local giveaways. This can include listening to the radio or entering a product promotion. With a little legwork, you may actually have a decent shot of winning something you want or that can be resold.

"The internet has so many options for saving money, getting something for free, winning a prize or earning money from home," Wendy Limauge, an expert on the matter, told CNN.
