 Enjoy your favorite meals guilt-free

Maintaining a healthy diet doesn't mean you can only eat diet foods. Too many people get caught up in counting calories and grams of fat that they forget that if they make a few simple substitutions in their meals.

Some feel as though the best way to lose weight is by eating diet foods - microwaveable meals meant for losing weight, fat-free ice cream or light soups. The problem is while these foods may be low in calories or fat, they are actually loaded with sugar, sodium and preservatives. The best way to get the results you want is to make a lifestyle commitment to choose healthy ingredients.

This is not bad news, but actually really good news because it means that instead of eating gross, frozen diet products that will leave you feeling hungry and unsatisfied, you can eat your favorite foods if you make these simple changes.

First, select whole grain with products. The Whole Grains Council explains that by eating whole grains you can reduce your risk of stroke, type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Switch to whole grain pasta, rice, bagels and hamburger buns - and when it comes to making the rest of your burger, go for organic, lean meat. This will reduce the saturated fat you will consume and will be just as juicy if you take it off the grill a few minutes earlier than normal.

Next consider adding more veggies to everything. Swap the pepperonis for vegetables on your pizza or replace some of the cheese in your quesadilla for peppers and onions. Eating lots of vegetables is a low calorie way to stay full, plus they are delicious.

Another great way to eat yummy foods without the guilt is to replace all sour cream and mayonnaise with Greek yogurt. You won't even taste the different in chicken salad, dips, or on top of chili.
