Part-time job ideas

Whether it's a student looking for summer work or someone hoping to earn supplementary income by moonlighting, part-time jobs are an important segment of employment. Often, we think of these as menial labor or poorly paid grinds, but they don't have to be.

With a little guidance, it's not hard to find part-time work that is satisfying, well-paid and that has a future.

Think seasonal
Some jobs are tied to specific times of year. Tax preparation, for example can be a great way to earn some extra money in the spring. Either working independently or joining a firm can be a profitable line of work for someone hoping to work for part of the year.

Likewise, lifeguarding in the summer offers a reliable stream of income. Lakes, ponds, pools and ocean beaches are always looking for suitable guards. You'll have to get certified, but you'll find it's well worth it.

Home-care
Providing home help for the elderly or infirm is one of the fastest growing sources of part-time work. With flexible hours and varied tasks, home-care is a great way to find work that suits your schedule and disposition. This job - which can be attained either through an agency or independently - is an easy way to make money while focusing on something else, such as raising a family or attending school.

Tutoring
Another job with flexible hours and no office is tutoring. With colleges becoming increasingly selective and standardized tests more rigorous, parents are always looking for ways to give their children a leg up. Find an area in which you possess special skills, and advertise your services. Depending on your circumstances, you can offer sessions at your house, in a public space or meet your pupil at his or her home.

In Brief
