Make a fitness routine that works

One of the most common New Year's resolutions is to lose weight and get in shape. By April, however, many of these resolutions have fallen by the wayside. Use these tips to develop a fitness routine that you can stick with.

Set a goal
Give yourself a concrete objective. Know whether you are setting out to lose weight, increase strength or improve overall health. Try to make the objective personal, like losing a certain number of pounds before a big social event will increase your motivation more than simply trying to lose the weight overall.

Make it public
Increase your motivation by sharing your goals with your friends and family. They will encourage your efforts and provide some needed moral support. You can use social media to share updates on your progress and let your friends post messages.

Balance nutrition and exercise
A balanced nutrition plan is an important part of any good fitness routine. The more you exercise, the more calories your body uses, so it is important to replace those calories with healthy foods that will help you sustain your energy.

Check your progress
Check your progress periodically, by using a journal to mark your advances. Try recording your weight at the end of each week so you can review your overall progress, or write your meals in a nutritional journal, making notes of which recipes you liked most. This will help you compile a list of your favorite meals that can help you stay on track.
