Soup isn't just good for you when you're sick

Most people grew up on eating chicken noodle soup when they were sick.Whether you swear by its medicinal qualities or love it for its placebo effect, there's no doubt that chicken noodle soup makes even the worst cold a little better. If you are looking for a meal that is both filling and packed with health benefits, soup is a great choice for the young and old, sick and healthy.

The best things about soup are its nutritional benefits. As oppose to, for instance, boiling spinach and pouring out the water, soup is great because you drink all of the water in which its contents were cooked. This is important because all of the nutrients are seeped out into the water when heated and cooked. When you finish a bowl of soup, you are consuming all of those important nutrients!

Soups are great for people trying to lose weight. They can be filling and are usually low in fat. Having a bowl of soup before your meal can keep you satisfied so you don't overeat.

You don't have to stick with plain old chicken soup everyday. Add in some chili powder and avocado for a Mexican flair, or use soy to make an Asian inspired miso soup. Miso soup has been proven to have medical benefits such as decreased risk of breast cancer and anti-aging properties.
