Three Tips For Getting Through Airport Security Quickly
Traveling can be a lot of fun and full of excitement, except when you are forced to spend an hour in airport security doing multiple screenings and bag checks. If this seems to happen to you every time you fly, or if you are an inexperienced flier, it may be a good idea review some of the airport security requirement basics so you can breeze through.
While airport regulations can vary among airports, most US airports adhere to similar standards that makes it fairly easy to prepare for security ahead of time. The following tips will make the situation less stressful.
1. Bring proper identification - If you do not have a valid driver's license or passport, you are not getting on a flight. Before your flight you must make sure that these documents have not expired as this will likely also keep you from boarding the aircraft. Finally, double check your belongings for these items before leaving home.
2. Dress with security in mind - The Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) explains that while passengers are allowed to wear religious apparel and head coverings while going through security, you may be asked to remove excess clothing such as a jacket or sweatshirt. You should also be aware that metal items will set off a metal detector such as body piercings, under wire bras, belt buckles or metal hair accessories.
3. Wear simple shoes - The TSA currently requires every passenger remove his shoes while going through security unless he is under 12 or an eligible frequent flier. To make things easier on yourself, consider wearing shoes you can easily slip on and off for this reason.
