Window treatments 101

There are a lot of little details that you must attend to when moving into a new home or trying to spruce up your current space. Window treatments are one of the most important aspects of a room, as it can drastically change the entire appearance.

There are a variety of window treatments you can choose from, including blinds, shades and curtains. When deciding which is best for you, many factors should come into play, such as how much you are willing to spend and the amount of window coverage you prefer.

Plastic blinds are often the most cost-effective option for window treatments, which is why you often see these in hotel rooms, office buildings and apartment complexes. While plastic gets the job done, you may want to consider wooden blinds if you have a little more money to spend, as they can dress up a room and provide a very polished look to your windows.

Shades are another great option for controlling light and making windows look nice. Like blinds, shades come in an array prices and qualities. According to HGTV, a silhouette shade is one of the new trends on the shade market. This shade is meant for small windows and incorporates sheer panels for a designer look. Roman shades are a classic favorite and can make a plain window instantly look more elegant.

Finally, curtains are often considered to be the most traditional form of window treatment. Most beautiful curtains come with a hefty price tag, but if you are on a budget stores like Target and Macy's have decent options. If you are getting curtains for a house that you plan on living in for a while, it may be a good investment to have curtains custom made. Not only do custom curtains look high quality, but they will be sure to match your decor perfectly.
