How to throw a wedding on a budget

Though it's possible to have a beautiful wedding on a budget, these days, the average American wedding ranges from $21,000 to $24,000, with some costing upwards of $50,000, according to Smart Money.

One thing that experts agree can save you a lot of money is having the wedding off-season. It is safe to say that the most popular time to get married is sometime during the warmer months from April to September. If you get married during February or March, for instances, you can save money on all aspects of the wedding as rates will be less competitive.

The venue is another aspect of the wedding you can save money on. Consider where you can get married that is inexpensive or even free. If you are a member of a church, it is typically inexpensive to get married on premises. Also, exchanging vows on a public beach is often a cost effective option. In terms of free locations for a ceremony and reception, think about who you might know that has a nice house or a picturesque piece of property. Some of the most beautiful weddings take place in such locations, and will decrease your wedding expenses tremendously.

An economic wedding gown can also help the happy couple stay within their budget. While it can be easy to gravitate toward the most expensive dresses, keep in mind that it's only worn for a couple of hours and those thousands of dollars can go towards other aspects of the wedding, or towards a down payment on a house. For a meaningful and affordable option, consider trying on a family member's gown
