Ways to save money when buying in bulk

If you are looking for ways to save money on items you use everyday, you may want to consider buying in bulk. By loading up on your favorite products when they are on sale, you may be able to significantly lower your household expenses.

Load up on non-perishables
There are lots of items you use everyday that don't have expiration dates. Buying things like paper towels, plastic bags and laundry detergent in bulk is the easiest way to save. It will keep you supplied for months while allowing you to purchase the items when they are on sale.

Do the math
When you plan on buying in bulk be sure to check the per-unit cost. Typically the larger the package the more you save on each unit, but promotionally priced smaller packages may make it worthwhile to load up on several of them.

Be sure you can store everything
Before you buy 10 pounds of chicken or steak, check your storage capacity or you may find that you have no room in your freezer once you get home. If you are stuck with no way to freeze your perishables, try splitting them with a friend or family member.

Make use of store brands
Generic store brands are often less expensive than brand names. This is especially true at big bulk retailers and wholesale clubs. Canned soft drinks are one product to really save money using generic store brands, and often your family won't even taste the difference.
