Four frugal smartphones

Saving money is often easier said than done - this is why many people say they want to save so much, but have such a hard time doing so. However, technology has made keeping track of your pennies at all times much simpler through using your smartphone. Multiple companies have created applications for iPhone and Android powered devices that will help you to handle your personal finances and stick to a budget.

1. Mint - This app was named the Best Finance App at the 1st Annual App Awards and was on TIME's list of 50 Best iPhone Apps of 2011. It has received so much recognition because it allows you to keep track of your transactions immediately, view up-to-date information about bank accounts and check to make sure your budget is on track. Perhaps the best part about this app is that it's free!

2. iXpenseit - Another popular app available for iPhone, iXpenseit keeps a daily expense report that you can compare to average spending on both a daily and monthly basis. Furthermore, it instantly generates graphical reports and is available in 12 languages. It's no wonder that CNN Money Magazine called it one of the "best iPhone apps."

3. Gift List Budget Shopping - Do you lose track of how much you're spending on people when it comes time to do Christmas, birthday or wedding gift shopping? If so, this app can help. It allows you to keep track of what you are spending when shopping and even lets you check stores for certain gift items.

4. Debt Snowball Pro - Listed on iTunes list of "Top 20 apps in 2011 to improve your fitness or finances." It allows you to see everything that you owe in one convenient place, and the best part is Debt Snowball helps you pay off all of your debt by paying the loan with the highest interest rate first.
